All about personal lubricants
Personal lubricants are specially made lubricants which are meant to be used during human sexual activity. The purpose of using personal lubricants is to reduce the friction between body parts i.e. penis, vagina and the anus.
The personal lubricants have two broad categories: water based lubricant and oil based lubricants. The water based lubricants are water soluble and they are most widely used. They get absorbed into the skin and as a result dry out after sometime. Once they are dry they can either be reapplied or use of water or saliva is sufficient to reactivate them. however, the water based lubricants are not compatible for sexual acts that are performed inside water such as in bath tub or swimming pool. Oil based lubricants are not insoluble in water. An example of such lubricants is petroleum based lubricant. The disadvantage of such lubricants is that they increase the chances of breaking or slipping of the latex condom because of loss of elasticity which is caused by this type of lubricants. Most of the lubricants are safe to be used during anal sex but there are products which are specifically made to enhance the pleasure of anal sex. Very often such lubricants are thick gels rather than liquids. There are fertility lubricants also, which are also known as sperm-friendly lubricants. These are specially made for those people who are trying to conceive because most of the other lubricants contain chemicals which are harmful for the sperms
One should be very careful while choosing a personal lubricant. Some lubricants can cause irritation among females. One should be aware of such lubricants and avoid the use of such products. Also, some lubricants damage cells and provide favorable atmosphere for the replication of HIV cells. There are a number of brands manufacturing personal lubricants.
